Weak Heart

The African mask from Bandulu's Cornerstone
The Cornerstone1 in space

The world — the people he'd known, the places he'd been confined to, the lies he'd been told — had drained him of everything he once was, used him up to within an inch of his life. All that remained was a shell. Yet within that shell remained the beating of a weak heart, the faintest flicker of remaining soul, that one thing they couldn't take from him. So he drifted into the deep black of space, where he might rebuild himself someday.
